Budget

This committee meets to draft a budget that addresses the local’s needs. After reviewing last year’s expenses and requests from other committees, the budget committee creates a recommended budget for the local’s executive for the upcoming year. The budget is presented at the local’s Annual Meeting held in May. This committee meets in the winter to prepare a draft budget by April for the local executive to review and consider.

Constitution

This committee meets to review the local’s constitution and its policies and procedures The committee makes recommendations to the local executive for potential amendments to present at the local’s Annual Meeting held in May. This committee usually meets in the winter to prepare recommendations for the local executive to consider.

Elections

This committee makes recommendations to the local executive, reviews the election guideline documents, explores voting options for the annual executive elections and may assist with the various election processes in the local. *Members who are nominated for positions in local elections shall not be a member of the Elections Committee. This committee may meet monthly from November to May.

Equity/Social Justice

This committee meets to plan events and recommend initiatives related to acceptance, diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice within the community-at-large and the educational community of TDSB elementary occasional teachers. This committee may meet every few months during the school year.

New Members

This committee supports new members during their first years of teaching. The committee will organize workshops that help to educate new members about the role of ETFO, provincially and locally as well as promoting ETFO services and supports. It aims to provide opportunities for networking, professional development and encourage new members to become actively involved with union and local activities. This committee may meet every couple of months during the school year.

Professional Development

This committee meets to provide professional learning opportunities for members to enhance their teaching skills. It reviews applications for rebate requests from self- directed learning and courses taken by members. It aims to enhance member involvement in the local and encourage collaboration among members. This committee may meet monthly from October to June.

Political Action

This committee meets to plan and carry out political activities to enhance the local’s profile of political issues and to foster and encourage greater political involvement by members. This committee may meet every few months during the school year.

Racialized Members

This committee meets to plan events and recommend initiatives related to cultural, racial, and linguistic diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism within the community-atlarge and the education community of TDSB elementary occasional teachers, as it impacts racialized members. The committee may meet every month during the school year.

Social

This committee meets to plan and carry out social activities to foster member engagement and solidarity and provide a welcoming and informative environment for all members. This committee may meet every few months during the school year.

Status of Women

This committee focuses on developing and implementing leadership initiatives for members and examines the issues which challenge women seeking leadership. It aims to empower women within the organization, in the teaching community and the broader community and to support and elevate the skills of members. This committee may meet every few months during the school year.

Requests to join a committee can be ongoing throughout the year and are conditional on the availability of space on the committee.

  • Committee members choose a chairperson from amongst the committee members, either by consensus or election.
  • The executive appoints members to committees; approves committee terms of reference and receive reports from the local’s committees.
  • Unless otherwise specified, no committee shall have more than 8 officio members. (as per the local’s constitution 7.2.1 d: The President shall be an ex-officio member of all committees). A committee chair may appeal to the executive to add extra committee members under extenuating circumstances.
